Jerry Joseph

jerry_joseph2Some songwriters just strike down to the heart of things. Even when they’re being tender they nail you in the soul’s solar plexus, shaking us with words and wires and something inescapably human. Jerry Joseph is this kind of composer – a rocker with emotional scalpel that cuts deep every time. He wears his influences on his sleeve – Elvis Costello, Neil Young, John Lennon, Steve Earle – but tailors them in ways that are always distinctly himself, probing the politics of love and nations with equal dexterity. By turns tough and unbelievably bruised, Joseph’s work manages to be joyfully pissed off and achingly bittersweet, often within the space of just a few verses. There’s a healthy restlessness to his music, a stripe of his modernity and tireless engagement with the world that places him next to younger contemporaries like Conor Oberst (Bright Eyes) and Ryan Adams.

JOSEPH ISRAEL

josephisrael-2009_006“Mixing Rock, Jazz, and Folk to a Rockers Reggae Bass, Joseph Israel is a musician who knows the past with an eye on the future.” – Relix Magazine Jan 2008

Joseph Israel, born Joseph M. Fennel, is one of those unique individuals whose natural talents and spiritual calling have merged into a music that is as thought provoking as it is inspiring. “What I share with my audience is to draw everyone closer to the source of Truth – that we are all brothers and sisters, and that division and lies cannot stand”. The name, Israel, is a reflection that defines Joseph’s striving for the blessings of the Almighty YHWH (pronounced ‘Yahweh’). This is the name intended for all peoples, tribes and tongues that love the Most High and love their neighbor. These are the teachings of Rabbi Yahshua of Nazareth the Messiah. This is what he is a part of. We are all one family.

Momentum started only two years prior, has quickly pulled in all who’ve heard it and has direclty lead FURS to playing with those that have musically inspired them- the Black Angels, Dead Meadow, Black Lips, Spindrift and have even had the opportunity of playing with, SWERVEDRIVER, one of the largest bands during the Shoegaze era, circa 1980.

LABCOAT

LabcoatLabcoat did not form with the intention of being a local “Supergroup.” It’s just simply a label that’s hard to avoid when your band consists of wellknown musicians who are all on the forefront in their respective science. Add to the beaker elements of diverse style, instrumental mastery, and passionate performance and the outcome is quite compelling. This genetic mutant of rock-n-roll exhibits some of the best characteristics from genres past, present, and future.

OH! WILD BIRDS

Oh! Wild BirdsOh! Wild Birds met in the late summer of 07′. The band started with two friends playing for fun and new inspirations. One friend played electric guitar and the other played the flute, guitar and sang. They decided to start small and play for friends around the city. When they found out people actually liked the music, they thought, “We should ask another friend to join in on the fun.”

This friend and new band mate was a very special violin player. They had a blast and wrote for a while but the three still felt the sound wasn’t complete. They thought out loud again, “Maybe we should get a drummer?” So, to craig’s list they went and put up an add for a drummer, also mentioning the instruments and what they’re favorite inspiring music was.

Then one day the guitar playing band mate got a call from a piano, mandolin and bouzouki player. He said, “I’m not a drummer but I really want to jam with you guys.” So of course they said, “Hell yes!” And the the jam was on.

SHAKY TRADE

Shaky TradeShaky Trade was formed in Ogden, UT in 2004 by childhood friends Billy Bommer (saxes, vocals), Greg Shaw (bass), and Simon Crompton (guitar). Picking up their respective instruments in high school, the three played in and around the Utah scene with several local groups. After witnessing a Weber State University Jazz Ensemble performance, the trio approached members Chris Clemons (brass, vocals) and Michael Wong (drums), and the newly formed quintet began rehearsals in the back room of a local tile shop. The five were able to find common ground and inspiration in groups as disparate as Red Hot Chili Peppers, Phish, and Jurassic 5, and a potent sound began to take shape. Consisting of fresh horn licks, a rock solid rhythm section, and tasty melodies, the group quickly established a fiercely loyal fanbase.
